Terms of use
The rules for using Farpane, in plain language.
- Farpane is free, for home and work.
- Use it only with computers and devices you own or may use, and never to see someone's screen without their permission.
- It's provided as is, without warranty; help is on Spidey's Web and by email.
Agreement
These terms are between you and Spidey, the independent developer who makes Farpane (spidey.in). By downloading, installing or using Farpane, the app on your phone or tablet and the app on your computer, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Farpane.
Your use of Farpane is also covered by the Farpane License, which says what you may and may not do with the software, and by the privacy policy.
Free to use
Farpane is free. You can use it at home and at work. Some future versions or features might be offered differently; if that happens, these terms will say so before it applies to you, and nothing you already have will stop working because of it.
Using Farpane properly
You agree to:
- use Farpane only with computers and devices that you own or are allowed to use;
- never use it to see, record or control someone else's screen or device without their clear permission;
- not use it for anything unlawful, or to get around the security of a computer, network or device;
- follow the rules of any network you connect over, such as an office, campus or café network.
Your setup is yours to look after
Farpane turns on features of your computer and device that you control: USB debugging on Android, and screen sharing and virtual input devices on the computer. You decide when to turn them on and off. USB debugging gives a connected computer wide access to your device, so only plug into computers you trust, and turn it off when you don't need it. Keep your own backups of anything important.
No warranty
Farpane is made with care, but it's provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including that it will be fit for a particular purpose, work without interruption or errors, or work with your particular computer, device, pen, cable or network. Features listed as planned or coming are plans, not promises.
Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Spidey isn't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss or damage, or for lost data, work, profits or time, arising from using or not being able to use Farpane, even if told such loss was possible. Since Farpane is free, Spidey's total liability for anything relating to it is limited to zero, to the extent the law allows. Some places don't allow these limits, so they apply to you only as far as your local law permits; nothing here removes rights that your local law says can't be removed.
Help and support
Help is offered on Spidey's Web, the Discord server for Spidey's projects, and by email at support@spidey.in. Support is given in good faith when time allows; there's no guaranteed response time. Discord's own terms apply on Discord.
Updates and changes
Farpane may be updated, changed or discontinued at any time. These terms may change too; the date at the top will show when. If a change matters, it will be announced on Spidey's Web. Continuing to use Farpane after a change means you accept the new terms.
Ending
You can stop using Farpane at any time by uninstalling it. If you break these terms or the license, your permission to use Farpane ends automatically, and you must stop using it and delete it.
Everything else
If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a part straight away doesn't mean giving it up. These terms, the license and the privacy policy are the whole agreement about Farpane between you and Spidey.
